Legend By Marie Lu: A book review.

Oh, boy! Where do I even start with this one? Let me just say that this book is like a wildfire - it starts off slow, but before you know it, it's burning everything in its path and you just can't look away! I mean, I stayed up all night reading this sucker and I have no regrets (except for the bags under my eyes, but hey, beauty sleep is overrated anyway).

Legend by Marie Lu is the kind of book that will make you forget about everything else around you. It's a dystopian novel that takes place over 100 years in the future, where the United States has split into two - the Colonies and the Republic. And let me tell you, it's not a pretty picture. Plagues are wiping out the population, natural disasters have destroyed parts of the country, and both sides are using biological warfare and lies to fight for power.

But don't let that fool you into thinking this book is a total bummer - it's actually pretty epic. The story is told in alternating POVs between Day, a criminal on the run, and June, a recent graduate of the Republic academy who is tasked with hunting down Day. And when these two characters collide, well, let's just say things get explosive. Secrets are revealed, conspiracies are uncovered, and a manhunt is underway.

And can we talk about the characters for a second? Day, June, Tess, and Kaede are all so badass that I want to be them when I grow up (even though I'm pretty sure I'm already grown up, but who's counting?). They're complex, flawed, and oh-so-likable. I mean, I was rooting for them the entire time, even when they were making questionable decisions (which was pretty much all the time, but that's what makes them so interesting, right?).

But the real star of this book is Marie Lu's writing. It's powerful, commanding, and it draws you in like a moth to a flame. And before you know it, you're completely consumed by the story. I mean, I took this book with me to run errands just so I could read in between red lights (don't worry, I was a responsible driver).

So, if you're looking for a book that will make you forget about the world around you, then look no further than Legend. It's addictive, it's thrilling, and it's everything you could want in a dystopian novel. And even though I read an advanced copy, I'm already counting down the days until the next installment is released. Congrats to Marie Lu for exploding onto the YA writing scene with a story that's finally going to give The Hunger Games fans what they've been craving - something amazing!
